I would
like first to wish all of you a very Healthy, Happy, and Joyous New Year.
Thank you for the support all of you have given to me in my first two years
as your elected Central Region Trustee. Please note my new office phone
number should any of you wish to contact me there.
The
following message was sent by George Watt ‘73, the President of the
Alumni Association. It is a message that should make each of you proud of
the great institution we hail from. It should also make you proud of the contribution
you made to the Naval Academy’s continued success. I also thank you
very sincerely for that contribution. Here is George’s message:
“The
entire Naval Academy family can be justifiably proud as the glow of the
Emerald Bowl victory continues. We can truly say "BRAVO ZULU - Mission
Accomplished!"
With over 1,600 midshipmen and 20,000 Navy fans in the stands, the national
television audience and the San Francisco Bay area saw USNA showcased as one
of the country's premier institutions. Your leadership and example made it
possible to attain the goal of producing 20,000 fans to cheer our team on.
Without your push we would not have had those individuals, Classes, Chapters
and Parent Clubs to answer the call for donations of game tickets. To you,
the leaders of our Extended Brigade, I say "Thank You!" for
modeling the way.
The Alumni Association and Foundation, working together with our Athletic
Association, provided the Superintendent and the football team a home game
atmosphere that contributed heavily to a convincing victory. The donation of
8,500 tickets substantially enhanced the Naval Academy's reputation as a
"class act" and positions us for future Bowl Game invitations.
We also thank you for your leadership as the ticket sales campaign was
conducted through our Flashnet email system. You understood the implications
and you continued to read and reinforce our message to buy tickets right up
to game time (and many people did just that!).
To all who led the effort, first give yourself a pat on the back and then
make yourself a promise that on your next trip to Annapolis you will stop by
Ricketts Hall to see the Emerald Bowl Trophy!
Its been a whirlwind season: 2nd annual capture of the Commander-in-Chief's
Trophy by beating Army & Air Force; 10 wins and 2 losses; an Emerald Bowl
victory on national television; Paul Johnson's receiving the Bobby Dodd Coach
of the Year Award for 2004; and Navy's being ranked 24th in the nation in
both major polls! And, lest we forget, three of our first class midshipmen
have been selected as Rhodes Scholars. A great year with more great things to
come!
Thank you again for all that you have done and for all you will continue to
do for the Naval Academy and for your Naval Academy Alumni Association and
Foundation.
GO NAVY!!!
George P. Watt, Jr.
President and CEO”
