Of course, I would be most pleased to get (and respectfully request) your support and vote for a second and final term as Central Region Trustee for the USNA Alumni Association. I want each of you to know that I realize the position carries responsibilities for me to represent each of you to the best of my ability. I wish to continue to make a difference for all of us—and I assure you that I will do so.
PLATFORM:
· To continue to seek your input of your likes and concerns--with the Alumni Association and the Academy—and to represent your thoughtful views. I believe that a Trustee must represent the considered views of others to carry out his duties responsibly. · To build on my work with fellow Trustees to ensure the Alumni Association is responsive to the needs and concerns of the Alumni. · To continue to represent Central Region Members well—being available in person, by phone, or by email throughout my term—and to feedback items of interest or importance regularly. · This would be my final term as a Regional Trustee to the Alumni Association, per the bylaws. Please call, email, or fax me for any additional information.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS DURING MY FIRST TERM:
· Solicited and acted on alumni input on a wide range of issues. · Played a key role to get Regional Trustees represented on the Executive Committee. · Helped numerous alumni with requests for information, assistance, etc. · Issued 77 Central Region Newsletters at my own expense since taking office in May 2002 (see web site archives at http://www.wcginc.com/usnaaa). · Recognized by fellow Trustees, and enjoy their support, as an activist for positive change on the Board of Trustees in its oversight and governance of the Alumni Association. · Visited several Central Region Chapters to participate in their events and update them on the Alumni Association.
QUALIFICATIONS/NAVY SUPPORT/OTHER ACTIVITIES
· Graduated with the Class of 1964 · Five years active duty in three submarines, including Vietnam service · Twenty years reserve duty in submarines (CO, Chicago unit) and Naval Research · MBA ’71 University of Chicago (Finance & International Business) · Senior Partner, Towers Perrin, a large general management consulting Firm (22 years); Clients were Fortune 500 Boards and executive management; Internal responsibilities included Board; Executive Committee; other Board Committees; management of East Coast offices and the worldwide Energy Practice · CEO of the Wass Consulting Group, a small consulting Firm (ten years) serving the same client base · Lifetime member of: USNA Alumni Association, Navy League, Naval Reserve Association, VFW, American Legion, and MOAA; active in local Navy League Chapter and also member U.S. Submarine Veterans · USNA Foundation Trustee (Athletics and Scholarships) since April 2000 (direct support of USNA athletics); President’s Circle donor · Organized the Class of ’64 Navy v. Notre Dame Memorial Trophy unveiled in 1999 at USNA; trophy in Ricketts Hall and listed in Reef Points · Involved with USNA, USNAAA, and Class of 1964 Special Projects: Scholarship program for deceased classmates; ‘64 ethics project; regularly attend annual ’64 Ethics Dining-In at USNA to instill graduating class with a greater sense of ethics, integrity, and ethical behavior · Serve or served on several community, charitable, and civic Boards, e.g.: Sisters of St. Joseph; Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce; Illinois Governor’s Task Force on Career and Technical Education · Active in trying to improve K-14 education in Illinois: Board Education Committee of Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce; Kelly HS Vocation Education Advisory Committee (inner city Chicago school); Mayor Daley’s Principal for a Day Program · Happily married (Kathy) with two stepsons (Rob, Notre Dame ’00 and Bill, Illinois ’04) · Like to hunt big game (Alaska, Africa, Hawaii, and lower 48) and upland game birds
