The March issue of Shipmate contains the ballot for the spring
election for members of the Board of Trustees.  This year, the positions
of Vice Chairman and Trustees for the Eastern and Central Region will be
on the ballot.  Alumni who live in the Central Region will be able to vote
for Vice Chairman and Central Region Trustee.

I am writing to urge each of you in the Central Region to vote!!  There
are around 10,000 Alumni living in our Region.  In the past, only a small
percentage has voted.  We need to reverse that trend.  You need to vote,
if only to indicate your interest in our Alumni Association.  It is
possible that a perceived lack of interest in Regional Trustees might
trigger a move to do away with them.

This year, we have two candidates for Central Region Trustee:

·       James Bethmann, Class of 1977

·       Leonard Wass, Class of 1964

You can read Jim’s and my bio on our web page.  Go to http://www.usna.com then to "About Us".  A short version of the bios will be in the March Shipmate along with the ballot. When you receive the ballot, take the time to vote.  Fill it out and send
it right back.  Support your Alumni Association with your vote.

Of course, I would be most pleased to get (and respectfully request) your support and vote for a second and final term as Central Region Trustee for the USNA Alumni Association. I want each of you to know that I realize the position carries responsibilities for me to represent each of you to the best of my ability.  I wish to continue to make a difference for all of us—and I assure you that I will do so.

PLATFORM:

·       To continue to seek your input of your likes and concerns--with the Alumni Association and the Academy—and to represent your thoughtful views. I believe that a Trustee must represent the considered views of others to carry out his duties responsibly.

·       To build on my work with fellow Trustees to ensure the Alumni Association is responsive to the needs and concerns of the Alumni.

·       To continue to represent Central Region Members well—being available in person, by phone, or by email throughout my term—and to feedback items of interest or importance regularly.

·       This would be my final term as a Regional Trustee to the Alumni Association, per the bylaws.  Please call, email, or fax me for any additional information.
