I received the following email from Bernie Maguire ' 64, a
member of the BOT of the Alumni Association and it Chairman of the Communications
Committee. Bernie is trying to take the pulse of alumni to determine their
needs, preferences, wishes, etc., with regard to Shipmate magazine. To
that end he issued the below message regarding a survey underway that
many of you might have been asked to participate in. Please read Bernie's
message below. If you have not been asked to participate in the survey
and have comments you wish to make, by all means send those to Bernie
at the following email address - ExecComm64@aol.com.
I'd be happy to take your comments as well and pass them on to Bernie
for inclusion in his survey. Shipmate Magazine is important to many alumni
and I hope that you'll get your comments in to Bernie on this issue. Here's
Bernie's message:

This email is being sent to Board of Trustees, Board of Directors, Chapter
and Class Presidents, and Parents' Club Presidents.
The Alumni Association recently commissioned a survey of members regarding
SHIPMATE magazine. Last week a sample of 12,000 members and over 700 parent
associate members received a questionnaire that has been designed to provide
relevant information about readership preferences. The firm of Fleishman-Hillard
is performing this online survey on behalf of the Alumni Association.
The job of the Communications Committee is to represent the views of all
alumni as SHIPMATE is transformed and to provide outside perspective to
the editorial staff of SHIPMATE. The members of the Committee were involved
in developing a relevant and useful survey.
As you know, SHIPMATE magazine is the most vital communications resource
we have. As the flagship of our communications fleet, SHIPMATE must be
kept current. It is our duty to ensure that the flagship maintains its
relevance for the broadest possible audience of members.
The evaluation of SHIPMATE that we are undertaking consists of a comprehensive,
'no holds barred' review of what works and what doesn't work. The evaluation
will emphasize relevance to our mission, strategic benefits, reader feedback
and prudent fiscal controls.
The Alumni Association Communications staff, led by Skid Heyworth, will
collaborate with the Communications Committee to review the results of
the survey and use the feedback to transform SHIPMATE magazine into the
flagship of tomorrow. This will be the first top to bottom review of SHIPMATE
in recent memory. Alumni who receive these Class, Chapter and Board leadership
emails are invited to send direct comments regarding SHIPMATE to the Communications
Committee in care of ExecComm64@aol.com. Your feedback is an important
part of our process.
GO NAVY!!!
